In Person. Join us at the JCC Ceramics Studio for an exciting inaugural Raku Workshop, spanning three engaging sessions! Over two consecutive Monday evenings, immerse yourself in the art of Raku ceramics using specially provided clay to craft and refine multiple pieces. Our esteemed wheel throwing teacher and experienced Raku firer, Amy Schnitzer, will guide you through the process. These pieces will be bisque fired at our studio.

But the adventure doesn't end there! On a full Saturday in Bloomfield, NJ, you'll journey to the studio of a renowned Raku potter. Here, under expert guidance, you'll glaze and fire your creations, ready to take home the same day. Each participant can fire 3-5 pieces (depending on size), with personalized assistance available throughout the workshop.

Please note that participants should have prior experience in wheel throwing or hand building, with the ability to work efficiently with minimal instruction. The workshop comprises two three-hour Monday sessions (6pm-9pm) and a full Saturday (9am-5pm, excluding transportation time) in Bloomfield, NJ. We kindly request a few volunteers to lead carpools to the destination.

A NOTE ABOUT RAKUWARE: Raku is a low-temperature firing process, and for that reason, raku pottery is softer and can chip more easily than many other forms of pottery. Raku pottery is not food safe, nor will it hold water. Raku pottery should be considered more decorative and not be used as “normal” daily ceramicware.
