Personal Training

The JCC offers personal training to people of all ages, exercise backgrounds, and physical abilities in a warm and friendly environment. Our expert team of dedicated and certified trainers will help you gain the knowledge, motivation, and confidence you need to achieve your fitness goals.

Our trainers are the best in the business—the JCC has a reputation for having the most loyal training staff in the city, and our trainers represent a breadth and depth of knowledge ranging from nutrition to exercise physiology.

JCC members receive a complimentary fitness evaluation and discounted pricing, but you don’t have to be a member to train at the JCC. Specialized training for teens, triathletes, seniors, and expectant/new moms is available. Small-group training for 2-4 people is also available as a more affordable option for those who would enjoy peer support while benefiting from the expertise of a JCC trainer.

FAQs

Do I have to be a member to do personal training at the JCC?
No, unlike other clubs, membership is not required to participate in Personal Training. Members do,  however, receive special discounts on personal training.

What is your cancellation policy?
If you do not cancel or reschedule your session at least 24 hours in advance, you will be charged for the session.

How long are the sessions?
We offer both 30- and 60-minute sessions.

How do I pick a personal trainer?
Please visit our personal trainers page to learn more about our trainers. Still not sure? We would be happy to recommend someone to you. Email cramirez@jccmanhattan.org.

What are the best exercises for my lower body?
Resistance training is a proven method to improve your strength and muscle tone. Body weight exercises such as squats, lunges, and step-ups will help target your lower body problem areas.

How do I flatten my stomach?
Getting a flat stomach is a combination of abdominal exercises and cardiovascular activity. Abdominal exercises such as crunches and leg raises will help strengthen your core. However, you must incorporate at least three 20-minute sessions of cardiovascular training into your weekly routine to decrease body fat.

Are weights going to make me “bulky”?
No. Getting "bulky" is a result of a combination of very heavy weight training and a nutrition plan specifically designed to increase muscle mass.

How many times a week should I be doing cardio and for how long?
For an individual of average health, it is recommended that you incorporate at least 20 minutes, three times a week into your workout routine. However, it is important to remember this a minimum recommendation.

What about carbs? Is it true that if I stop eating them, I'll lose weight?
Low-carb diets can reduce body weight and decrease body fat. However, to sustain long-term results, it is recommended that you eat a balanced diet.

Our experienced certified personal trainers can assist you with designing a workout routine that will help you lose weight, and get stronger so you can feel your best. We can work with people at all fitness levels to help you take the guesswork out of exercising. These sessions will help you decrease body fat, increase lean muscle mass, and improve overall health.

Regardless of athletic ability or fitness level, almost every person has some degree of muscular or postural imbalances. These imbalances can cause stiffness, aches and pains, and even lethargy. Our integrated training sessions address these imbalances, reduce the chance of injury, and help increase movement functionality and efficiency.

Health Coaching - 30 Min/60 Min
Health coaches are trained to consider lifestyle factors outside the gym that may be hindering you from reaching your fitness goals. They will help you make lifestyle and basic nutritional adjustments that will result in long lasting changes. Our Health coaches have experience in areas such as nutrition, stress management, and behavioral change.

Break free from aches and pains like plantar fasciitis, sciatica, shoulder impingement, and other concerns with our Specialty Training. An in-depth series on movement restoration and postural alignment performed in specialty sessions might be the right solution for you.

Master Training - 30 Min/60 Min
These uniquely sophisticated sessions provide high levels of tracking and communication to ensure success and quick progress. After each session, you will be provided with a progress review and assigned home exercises, if applicable. In addition, there will be weekly phone conversations in which the master trainer can answer questions and provide guidance and support. Our master trainers regularly research on each client’s needs in order to be able to provide highly individualized treatment.

This became her niche and her business, Bodysculpting by Lisa, was born! Lisa recognized that strength training was key to not only weight loss but building muscle for stronger bones and antiaging! Lisa then began the journey of yoga, where flexibility, and mindfulness became the missing component to a healthy mind and body! Lisa puts the "personal" in personal training and personal yoga instruction; as she prides herself on crafting exercise programs to meet individuals’ need by incorporating strength, conditioning, and yoga. With an infectiously positive attitude and optimism, Lisa’s “Strong is the new Healthy” mantra is embraced throughout New York City. Lisa and her husband, David, reside on the Upper West Side. She now enjoys using those modalities to keep her clients pain-free, self-sufficient, and ready to take on the world, just as they take command of their bodies.

Through continual study and understanding of joint dynamics, myofascial techniques, and the neural system, Travis creates and applies specific drills to alleviate pain and improve function across all areas of physical performance,; oftentimes within the span of a single session. Travis also offers small group training for those who may find the camaraderie of working alongside others a better match than individual training. Outside of helping JCC members move and feel better, Travis is a middle-school and varsity wrestling coach. MEET TRAVIS.

Since 1995, Dorit has been a yoga instructor and Reiki Master practicing in both Israel and New York City. In 2006, she continued her professional development by becoming a Holistic Health Counselor and Personal Trainer. Most recently Dorit has been studying the fascial system with world-renowned osteopath Guy Voyer, M.D. Dorit is also learning how to activate the nervous system's neuroplasticity through deliberate practice using novel stimulus. Integrating all these skills into her unique mind, body, and soul approach to personalized training sessions allows her to address her client’s’ overall well being. Dorit provides her clients with invigorating, goal-orientated workouts as well as individualized nutritional planning and counseling. MEET DORIT.

Since 1995, Dorit has been a yoga instructor and Reiki Master practicing in both Israel and New York City. In 2006, she continued her professional development by becoming a Holistic Health Counselor and Personal Trainer. Most recently Dorit has been studying the fascial system with world-renowned osteopath Guy Voyer, M.D. Dorit is also learning how to activate the nervous system's neuroplasticity through deliberate practice using novel stimulus. Integrating all these skills into her unique mind, body, and soul approach to personalized training sessions allows her to address her client’s’ overall well being. Elyse finds physical movement invaluable to her own mental health. Her passion for physical fitness began as a child, when she would alternate evenings at Hebrew school with time on the tennis court. Today, she incorporates fitness into her everyday life by running to work, taking boxing classes, and weight training. Elyse believes physical fitness is essential for overall health and wellness, including mental health. She assists clients in identifying fitness routines that work for them, ultimately bringing positive energy to the rest of their lives outside of the fitness center.

Andrew, a native New Yorker, was first inspired by the world of weight lifting at the age of 14. He immediately fell in love with the sport and found ways to challenge his strength. After more than a decade of traditional lifting, he achieved his desired goals in back squats, seated shoulder presses, bench presses, and deadlifts. This sparked Andrew's curiosity and desire to expand his understanding of functional movement. Andrew was introduced to the C.H.E.K. Institute, where he became certified as a Holistic Lifestyle and Exercise Coach. Being certified through C.H.E.K. has taught Andrew the importance of incorporating proper posture, balance, and assessments into all his workouts. Between his challenging CrossFit style workouts and rehabilitating exercises, Andrew can accommodate to a vast majority of clients’ needs.
