In Person. Ruth Franklin’s The Many Lives of Anne Frank offers a fresh and revealing biography of Anne Frank, tracing her journey from an ordinary teenager to a global icon. Franklin explores Anne’s life in hiding during the Holocaust and the profound impact of her famous diary, now translated into over 70 languages. Through comprehensive research and thoughtful interpretation, Franklin restores Anne’s humanity, examining her story’s reception and its relevance today, especially in light of rising antisemitism. The book also delves into the controversies surrounding the diary’s adaptations and how Anne’s image has been both celebrated and politicized over time. Complementing these themes is Chen Drachman’s The Book of Ruth, a poignant short film starring Tony and Emmy nominee Tovah Feldshuh, exploring hidden family secrets during a Passover seder and touching on memory, identity, and acceptance.
