In Person. Between 1880 and 1924, millions of Jewish immigrants made their way to New York City, transforming it into a vibrant hub where Jews could once again live freely and thrive. Among this wave were some of the finest writers of the era, who found in the Lower East Side a rich cultural landscape that inspired their work. Figures like Emma Lazarus, I. L. Peretz, and Sholem Aleichem captured the essence of Jewish life in their stories, reflecting the struggles, joys, and spirit of this dynamic community. On this tour, we will journey through their words, bringing to life the legacy of social change, charitable institutions, daily life, art, and, of course, the delicious foods that remain hallmarks of Jewish culture in New York to this day.
