About Us
History
After five successful years of running the Day Camp @ the JCC inside the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, we opened our first camp outside of the city in 2007. Located on a five-acre property in Pearl River, NY, this fun and enriching summer camp provided a beautiful backdrop for loving and dedicated staff, happy and growing campers, and countless warm and heartfelt moments. After nine summers, we knew we wanted more for our camp community so, in 2016, we purchased a 21-acre property, more than four times larger than our previous space, nestled in the foothills of Harriman State Park in Pomona, NY. Camp Settoga was born.
A magical place infused with Jewish values and engaging programming designed to excite, inspire, and connect campers each summer, Camp Settoga features an Olympic-size pool, a multicourt athletic complex, a 16-element challenge course, and exceptional culinary and art centers. The setting is a wonderful open space for children and staff to run around and truly enjoy the outdoors.
Spirit
Enthusiasm, energy, and positivity are Settoga hallmarks, and this will be evident from your first visit. Our staff and campers bring so much energy to the day that at times it seems as if each activity is the high point of the summer. This energy translates into eager participation and self-motivated learning from staff and campers alike. Your child will leave Settoga with incredible memories, meaningful friendships, and a new place to call home.
Settoga Moments
Camp Settoga is a place for growth and development. A Settoga moment is a way to acknowledge and highlight a moment in time that illustrates personal growth, overcoming an obstacle, achieving a goal, or any positive individual experience that happens in camp. Our Settoga moments board at the center of camp is a prized way of sharing a personal moment of growth with our Settoga community at large. Settoga moments can happen anywhere at any time, so don’t hesitate to share your child’s Settoga moments with us well after the summer ends!
Self Expression
Camp Settoga is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for every camper. Our groups are all-gender and we do not use gender as a way to define or limit individuals. By doing this, we strive to overcome gender stereotypes, encourage self-expression, and nurture opportunities for growth. We embrace diversity in all forms. Everyone is welcome and embraced in our amazing summer home.
We all thrive because every camper brings something special to our accepting and dynamic community. With years of experience, our staff is passionate about creating a warm and loving place that sees each of our campers for who they are as individuals. We’re proud of this deep commitment to diversity and aim to set the standard for creating a Jewish camp culture that is open and inclusive of the full spectrum of the Jewish community.
Creating a celebratory, truly representative community is an ongoing process. Be in touch to ask us the hard questions; be honest with us and we promise to respond in kind. We know it takes a village to raise a child and we want to be part of your village.
