Dir. Vadim Perelman
(Russia/Germany/Belarus, 2020, 127 min)
Set in Occupied France in 1942, this gripping new film follows Gilles, a Jewish man played by Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, as he is arrested by SS soldiers and sent to a camp in Germany. In a harrowing twist of fate, Gilles narrowly avoids execution by claiming to be Persian rather than Jewish. However, his deception comes with a high-stakes mission: he must teach Farsi to the Head of the Camp, who dreams of opening a restaurant in Iran once the war is over. As Gilles grapples with the moral complexities of his situation, he finds himself drawn into a dangerous game of survival and subterfuge, where every move could mean the difference between life and death.
