In Person at JCC Harlem. We all have the potential to save a life. Join Aaron Viny, M.D., physician scientist, oncologist, and cancer survivor, in this family-friendly event aimed at ensuring that every patient in need of a bone marrow transplant has access to a matched donor. As Dr. Viny celebrates 20 years since a bone marrow transplant saved his own life, he, along with co-sponsor The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, will provide information, resources, and bone marrow typing by cheek swab for adults 18–40 who are interested in joining Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. The day will include food, activities, hands-on experiments and demonstrations for kids, and scientist-led, community discussions on blood disorders and the curative potential of bone marrow transplantation.

Aaron Viny, M.D., was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 20. Since receiving a bone marrow transplant in 2003, he has been cancer free. He graduated from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine in 2009 and now lives with his family in Morningside Heights, where he is a physician scientist and assistant professor of medicine and genetics development at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. For more on Dr. Viny and his work, visit the Viny Lab page.
